Deconstructing Church

Writing my way to an inclusive and affirming Church

A Prayer for Sunday 17th May

God, this is tough. We miss our friends and families. We miss human contact, a hug, a touch. We despair at the isolation of those we care about, living alone and aching for company. God, be at the centre of our pain.

God, this is tough. We yearn for our old lives, for a normality we will never see again. We don’t know who we are any more as our jobs, roles and routines have been taken away from us. We cling to the old, not knowing what the new will bring. God, be at the centre of our pain.

God, this is tough. We hear conflicting advice from those in leadership, and we don’t know which way to turn. We want to do the right thing but we don’t know what that is. Confusion abounds and tensions are flaring. God, be at the centre of our pain.

God, this is tough. We’re tired. Our brains are working overtime trying to process a global scale crisis while also trying to keep stillness and safety in our lives. Some of us are working harder than ever while some of us wish we were. God, be at the centre of our pain.

God, this is tough. We fear the time when the money will run out, when the support will falter and we have to go it alone in an unknown world. We cry out to you, we need to know you are there. God be at the centre of our pain.

Amen

Peace be with you.
