Deconstructing Church

Writing my way to an inclusive and affirming Church

A Prayer for Pentecost, Sunday 31st May

Holy Spirit, burn. Burn through our lives and rid us of all the things which need to become ash so we can rise from them. Burn out the rancid flesh so our wounds can heal. Melt away the impure elements so the pure can shine. Holy Spirit, burn.

Holy Spirit, blow. Blow away the cobwebs of a long held faith and refresh it anew. Blow away the winds of trouble and bless us with a peaceful breeze. Breathe into our lungs and give us fresh breath, every hour, every minute, every second. Holy Spirit, blow.

Holy Spirit, whisper. Whisper into our still hearts as we sit an wait for your voice. Whisper into the hearts of those who do not yet know you, so they may hear there is something more speaking into their yearning. Whisper ‘I love you’ to humanity in so many ways we cannot help but know it in every fibre of our beings. Holy Spirit, whisper.

Amen

Peace be with you.
